Resolution on the Use of Liturgy

WHEREAS the worship service is not merely for the singing of songs and the preaching of the

word, but also for prayer, confession, communion with God through the Eucharist, and

theological strengthening through the recitation of the Creeds and reading of the Scriptures; and

WHEREAS the full Liturgy contains all of these aspects of worship; and

WHEREAS the contemporary service does not regularly contain all if any of these aspects of

worship; and

WHEREAS the music style chosen for a particular service need not have any effect on the

general order of service;

BE IT RESOLVED that the full liturgy as laid out in the United Methodist Hymnal be used

regardless of music style.
