How to join and reclaim United Methodist Churches
-
Locate a moderate to orthodox church near you that you would be willing to dedicate your time, and perhaps your life to.
Look for churches that have a strong established connection with the community and that has historic roots, but don’t feel as if you don’t have to go to new ones too. All potentially savable churches should be saved.
You can find lists of churches near you under your Annual Conference’s church directory.
How do you find your annual conference?
Look up umc.org and look for list of Annual Conference or just look up Annual Conference Directory.
You can also find moderate or orthodox churches under the Operation Reconquista map below.

Once you’ve found a good church, it is now your home. And you need to know those in your home. Learn the names of the congregants, the leaders, and make friends. Learn more about each other and attend social functions. Make yourself a part of that church.
Talk to the pastor(s) and leadership about God and doing what’s right, and get to know where they stand on issues of the faith. Be someone that they can respect. Speak whenever you have questions and concerns.
Talk about God with the pastors and the congregants, speak about being true to Christ, and give advice and concerns where needed. One must be genuine if they really mean to make a change at the local level, so do it sincerely.
Past simple social matters, learn and study all you can about the Trinune God, the Bible, Methodism, and the history of the faith. Truly learn the faith, and understand why the church is where it is, and what Christians need to believe to be true to Christ.
If you don’t know enough about the Bible, set yourself a schedule to read it each day, or a few times a week so you can slowly learn. But ensure you understand the Gospels if you can’t dedicate too much time, it will bring you back to other parts of the Bible and inspire you to read further and slowly but surely you will fully read it.
Become a faithful, understanding and social member of your church.

Once you are established at your church, become a leader.
How do you do this?
Start simple and volunteer: set up, join the choir, or help decorate. Prove yourself reliable so that you can take steps forward. Ask to lead some important ministry like helping to create or run a website, being a groundskeeper, being a confirmation leader, leading a Bible study, or helping to evangelize around the area for your church.
Then after this, if you are truly able to have a real effect at your church, you can join your church council and possibly become a trustee or director of an important part of the ministry.
And if you wish to lead spiritually, go to seminary. Speak to your pastor, read online, or read our social media posts to learn about the process. Find a good seminary, college, or university that will support a Biblical worldview, or take a hard step for your faith and go to a more liberal seminary to immunize yourself to progressivism through hard thought and perseverance in the Faith.
Or, if you think you can help in a more administrative/representative role, you can become a delegate at your annual conference, or the big 4-year general conference. You can refer to our social media posts on how to do this or speak to your pastor. Even youth have a place at these conferences, though you must really make a stand to have your voice heard.
These efforts as leaders do not happen overnight. Becoming a leader in the church will make a long-term change if you stick with it, stay true to Christ, and fight back against Progressivism and its doctrine.
And we pray, that you may join us, as we look to push for that effort.
